Such a treasure of a place. The guides are very helpful. The history of the castle is interesting even up until very recent times. Well worth a visit.

Pretty small but wonderfully restored. There are no official tours but you can find your way around quite easily and most things are pretty self explanitory. The ferrymen will even give you a 360 spin around the castle on your way back to the mainland.

This is where you pay for your fuel it's the building directly opposite from the fuel pumps. In the shop they sell newspapers along with the local newspaper which is available every Thursday or Friday it can vary. The shop sells a small variety of food along with frozen food as well.

Awesome scenery when enjoyed on a clear afternoon/evening! Well worth the hike up albeit the pathways are not terribly clear and the ground is wet. Good car park facility on main road above Castlebay reduces the hike up from sea level!!

With good weather you have a truly stunning view with all of Barra and Vatersay laid out before you. You can also see all the other surrounding islands and even to the mainland on a clear day! If by car there is a car park on the road up from Castlebay. From there hop over the fence (there is a gate) and work your way up. There is a rough path if you like. Around 2/3 up there is a white statue of Mary and Jesus. Great views here too. From there is a path to the left (facing the summit) which curves back round to the summit up from the south-westerly side or to the right you can try a steeper option up the grass on the north-easterly side although it could be slippy. Enjoy!

Had a nice pizza here last year, stone baked, delicious.
